India's electric vehicle sales had a strong run, with total sales crossing three lakh units across scooters, three-wheelers, cars and buses — a 63 percent rise year-on-year. Electric two-wheelers continued to anchor overall EV adoption, with 1.28 million units sold in 2025, representing 57 percent of total EV sales, while electric three-wheelers followed with 0.8 million units, or 35 percent share.
The heavy weighting toward two- and three-wheelers reflects where EV economics work most cleanly in India today — lower battery costs relative to vehicle price and shorter daily-use ranges make electrification more immediately viable than in passenger cars.
Supply chain challenges remain a headwind, however, with India's EV manufacturing ecosystem still heavily reliant on imported battery cells and semiconductor chips, largely from China.
